General City Transportation

Small map showing the historic center of Cracow can be viewed by clicking [ HERE ] . The higher resolution map of a City center and its close vicinity, suitable for printing on a color printer, is provided here in the JPEG and PDF formats. The rough sketch marking locations of conference hotels and major activities can be viewed [ HERE ] . The important stops for bus lines (114 and 124) that serve the New University Campus, are shown on this map as (A).
The City has a good public transit system consisting of Buses (3 digit numbers) and Street Cars ("Tramwaj" pronounced as: tram-vay) (one or two digit numbers -- bus connecting stops are marked with A). Higher resolution maps suitable for printing in PDF format are available for BUS ROUTES and TRAMWAJ ROUTES. You can buy a 72 hour pass for about 6 US Dollars (24 PLN), which is valid for all Buses and Tramwajs. And there are of course taxis, which are the primary communication option for busy people in Krakow. The front desk from any hotel will gladly call one for you, and you save by calling rather than getting a taxi off the street (call taxis are less expensive) beside being sure that there are no language miscommunication problems. Bus/Tramwaj routes and timetables are available from the City Transportation Corporation (MPK). They provide an interactive map, which allows you to zoom on the area of interest. You can click on the location of transportation stop, and you will be shown all connections, links to timetables and routes. Some quick course in Polish: Dzien Powszedni -- Weekday, Soboty -- Saturdays, Swieta -- Holidays/Sundays. Click on icons on the top to activate legends. SVG Viewer plug-in is required in your browser to use this service.
