Arrival in Phoenix

Some people may be confused by the fact that the name Phoenix is used for the City of Phoenix (capital of Arizona) as well as the entire Metropolitan Area, which also includes Tempe and a number of other cities. The demarcation of municipal borders in not apparent, and, while driving through the Phoenix MSA, you will not see a border checkpoints or welcome signs. Another important detail, which makes arrival to our meeting easy and comfortable, is that Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is located only about five miles from Downtown Tempe and the Tempe Campus of Arizona State University. Most hotels provide complimentary shuttle service, but if you do not want to wait for a shuttle, it is only a 10 minutes ride for about 15 dollars with the taxi.

For those who plan to rent a car, we recommend using the services of our partner - Advantage Rent A CAR (ARAC). An ARAC office is located within the Twin Palms Hotel (TPH), our after hours headquarters and a place where many of our out-of-state participants will be accommodated. It is also one of our networking spots. By renting a car at TPH, you will avoid the hassle of driving in and out of a busy airport and you can rent a car only for the days you really need it. If you are not staying in TPH, call Jaime (tel: 480-449-3542) and he will pick you up. To reserve the car from ARAC, click here.

If you come with the car from another city in the United States... just Google it or activate your GPS navigator and listen to your favorite music until you reach your destination.

Direction to the venues

If you are staying within walking distance from the ASU Tempe Campus and healthy enough to walk, we recommend walking to the events . Walking will be faster and healthier and on campus parking is limited. You may also ask the hotel if it is possible to arrange a free shuttle for you, particularly if there is a group of participants going to the same place at the same time. Our participating hotels have very friendly and helpful personnel.

Parking

The organizers reserved 50 spaces at Parking Structure 4 (PS4) each day of the meeting. It is located on the southwest corner of Rural Road and Terrace Street. Turn west onto Terrace street from Rural Road. PS4 will be on your left-hand (south) side. Please tell the attendant, if asked, that you are with NGC2007. Spaces not used by 10 am will be released back to the university, however, due to spring break, there should still be available spaces in PS4. Parking costs $8 per day and is paid for in cash when you exit the structure. PS4 is located less than in 5 min walking distance east from the conference venues, Murdock Hall (MUR) and John W. Schwada Classroom Office Building (SCOB). A limited number of free parking spots are also available at Twin Palms Hotel, which is located in 10-15 min walking distance south west from MUR and SCOB. Ask at the hotel registration desk for a daily parking permit.
