Subject: RE: Re[2]: First NGCM2004 Local Committe meeting
Dear co-organizers of NGCM2004,
I wrote this message in form of the comments to the summary
Of our first teleconference prepared by Alexander Yakovlevich.
1. Establish the e-mailing list of organizers for
further communication.
It has been done, but only Anatoli has all addresses, I think.
I attach the initial address files for NGCM local and program committees
And for the advisory board and those people are listed on the address
Field in this message. I took the liberty to add the co-chairman of NGCM2004
Program committee and section co-chairman Boris Potapkin (program committee)
and Inna Nazarova (local committee) from our Motorola Moscow
Office. Inna is working in Motorola Government Relations Office and she
Is interested and in a good position to help us.
2. Start forming Program Committee (Section organizers)
and International Advisory Board.
I have promised to come with the list of people from our previous board of
Organizers whom we may invite to participate as co-organizers of NGCM2004.
Except the people listed in the attached files I suggest the following people from
NGCM2004 committees (check it at <http://www.asdn.net/moscow/>) and some
New ones:
International Advisory Board:
Radiy Il’kayev, Zhores Alferov (new), Evgeniy Velikhov, William Johnson,
Marius Orlowski, Jim Toevs. Steve Watson.
Scientific program Committee:
Boris Aronzon, Jim Greer, Doug Resnick.
Local Organizing Committee:
Vladimir Polutin (Motorola, St Petersburg)
I may provide explanation for every person I suggest, if required.
Please, make your own suggestions/comments, particularly for the new
Section leaders, e.g. for those we had at NGCM2002 or some new ones,
Particularly those which may well fit to Ioffe Institute research in the
Area of nano technology for microelectronics.
3. Start sending letters and proposals to the potential
sponsors.
For the possible sponsors in Russia it is need to prepare a draft of
the letter to sponsor (in Russian).
Alexender Yakovlevich, could you, please, make such a draft for
Potential sponsors in Russia? I will do the same for potential
International sponsors.
4. Start to make a preliminary list of invited speakers.
A preliminary list of invited speakers and topics will be prepared
Korkin, Gusev and Vul' by the next conference call.
I think it may be better to define the sections and section chairmen
First and let them to come with suggestions in the corresponding
Areas of expertise. However, about 1st ten speakers we can probably
Define soon and use this list as the catch on our web site.
5. Define venue. Suggested: St Petersburg hotel or education center
of Ioffe Institute.
6. Define how many days the conference will take and its framework.
Suggested: 2 days for the Summer School and 3 days for Symposium.
The decision is the following:
In accordance to good experience of the first Nano&Giga
conference a rule must be set:
NANO&GIGA conference consists of two
days of school for students and young scientists and three days of
scientific conference.
At Nano&Giga'2004 the two days school will be placed at the Education
Center of Ioffe Institute (September 13-14,2004) and the conference at
Hotel St.Petersburg (September 15-17,2004).
I think this may be considered as an agreement unless for some reasons
We will need to change it.
7. Prepare a draft of the conference budget considering that we
may have ~500 participants with about 300 of them being foreigners
(including former USSR republics).
A draft of the conference budget has been prepared by the Local
Organizing Committee (file was sent to Anatoli). It would be discussed
by the next conference call.
The budget based on assumption that a number of participants is about 500.
It is need that the Local Organizing Committee specifies
possibility to get a discount from the hotel St.Petersburg if a number
of the participants will be about 200 but not less than 100.
Your draft looks OK to me.
8. Define the coordination between the local webmaster (Siklitsky)
and ASDN webmaster (Labanowski) and prepare the first draft of
the NGCM2004 web site.
A list of tasks on this point has been prepared by Siklitsky and sent
to Anatoli by e-mail as a file. It is need to make decision based on
this list by the next conference call.
On the software side this “list of tasks” repeats 90% of work which is done already (just need to copy the corresponding modules of NGCM2002), the
Other work listed is the assumed work of organizers which will be presented
At the web site.
Suggested solution: Siklitrky will develop the local web site and Jan will
Continue to maintain NGCM2004 international web site as a copy of NGCM2002
With the corresponding modifications and removing redundancies (functions
Presented at Ioffe site). Some functions on OSC web site will be just hyperlinks to the Ioffe site and vise versa. This will help to avoid duplication and allow the freedom to both our web masters in their work. Jan and Vadim will get access to
the web sites of each other. If having one site Is a better alternative then we wil start from the copy on NGCM2002, which both web masters will add new modules to and modify existing ones. This may look as less work from the first glance, but may lead to some confusions and need more coordination. Let’s
talk about this at our next teleconference.
Future teleconferences: I suggest to reserve one hour in a week, but if there
Are no issues to discuss the meeting will be cancelled. Suggested date and
TimeL Thursdays, 6 pm Moscow time (7 am AZ, 10 am US East Cost). I am
Open for other (better) alternatives.
Best regards,
Anatoli
