Social Program

The NGC / CSTC 2009 Organizers offer a diversified program of networking and social events to meeting participants and guests. Please, visit this page regularly for updates as more information about the social program will become available. Costs given for social program are to cover transportation and admission.

If you are interested in signing up for any of the social program events please contact Mr. Daniel Fielder so approximate numbers can be gathered and your spot reserved.

Monday & Tuesday (August 10 & 11)

Mixer at The Phoenix
The Phoenix Bar & Grill is located in Wentworth House on the upper level just outside MDCL. Starting at 6:00pm everyone from the conference is invited to converge for food and drinks to unwind, socialize and network with each other. There will be a summer time barbeque menu available to order from.

Tuesday (August 11)

McMaster Planetarium Show
What better way to spend an afternoon then star gazing in broad daylight? Come and join us in the Burk Science Building B149 for the hour long show. Space is limited so be sure to email Daniel Fielder () to reserve your ticket.
Time: 4:00pm - 5:00pm

Wednesday (August 12)

Hamilton Art Gallery Tour
The Hamilton Art Gallery is Ontario’s third largest public art gallery and owns one of the finest collections of art in Canada, featuring over 9,000 works of art including historical European, historical Canadian and contemporary art. Check out their website to find out what are the Current Exhibitions on display.

The Hamilton Art Gallery is open 12-7 Tuesday, Wednesday and from 12-9 Thursday, Friday. A NGC / CSTC 2009 conference name tag will entitle the holder to a special reduced admission rate from August 11 to August 14.

Spencer Gorge and Webster's Falls Walking Tour
Enjoy an afternoon stroll along the scenic Dundas escarpment. This nature walk has magnificent views of Webster’s and Tew’s Falls. Don’t forget to stop at the Dundas Peak to enjoy a beautiful view overlooking Dundas Valley.

Reception
The welcome reception for all conference delegates will be held at McMaster University’s historic University Club.
Time: 6:30pm - 9:30pm

Thursday (August 13)

Lunch at the Ancaster Old Mill
To provide a break in the day and change of scenery delegates will have the opportunity to have lunch at the Ancaster Old Mill. Delegates do have the choice of returning to McMaster University after the lunch or staying later and enjoying the Ancaster Village Waterfall Walking Tour.

Ancaster Village Waterfall Walking Tour
After Lunch at the Ancaster Old Mill delegates can enjoy a relaxing nature walk though the Ancaster Village Waterfall trail. On this hike there will be a chance to view 10 different water falls. A bus will also be provided to take delegates from McMaster who do not want to go for lunch up to Ancaster for the walking tour only.

Friday (August 14)

Royal Botanical Gardens
Take an exhilarating trip though nature’s most beautiful work. The Royal Botanical Gardens feature five gardens, four nature sanctuaries and a 30km long trail system. The delegates will arrive in time to have a pleasant lunch provided by pepperwood catering. After lunch the delegates are free to tour the grounds by themselves or with a guide. A bus will also be provided to take delegates from McMaster who do not want to go for lunch but still want to enjoy the scenic Royal Botanical Gardens.

Saturday (August 15)

Niagara Falls & Winery Tour
What better way to wrap up a successful conference than a trip to beautiful Niagara Falls. The morning is spent looking at the Falls and strolling along the Clifton Hills area. Each participant is responsible for their own lunch. Then after lunch there will be a Maid of the Mist Boat Cruise near the base of the Falls. After the Maid of the Mist Cruise on the way back to Hamilton there will be tours of a few of the local Wineries such as Reif Estate and Peninsula Ridge. Space is limited for Niagara Fall & Winery Tour. For reservations please contact Mr. Daniel Fielder ().
