NGC2007 Newsletter -- February 27, 2007 GENERAL: The NGC2007 conference is approaching quickly, and our team of local organizers is very busy preparing for the meeting. Although we are happy to answer your questions via email, we would greatly appreciate you checking our frequently update web site for new information added on local events, venues, transportation and registration, as your questions may already be answered. If you have not yet completed your reservation and paid your conference fee, we invite you to do it earlier rather than later to save time for our interesting program and networking rather than waiting in line at the registration desk. TRANSPORTATION: Phoenix Sky Harbor International airport is located only about 5 miles from Downtown Tempe (part of the Phoenix Metropolitan Area) and Arizona State University. It takes about 10-15 minutes to get to your hotel by taxi, and hotels that we have recommended have complimentary shuttle services. If you plan to rent a car, we suggest you reserve it at the Twin Palms hotel from our partner Advantage Rent A Car. You will avoid driving in and out of busy airport, it is cheaper, and you can rent it only when you really need it, if at all. For further details, please visit our transportation web page: http://asdn.net/ngc2007/transportation.shtml VENUES: Our scientific and business program will be held at ASU?s Tempe Campus in two buildings, Murdock Hall (school sessions and morning plenary sessions) and the Schwada Classroom Office Building (SCOB) (afternoon sessions). They are located close to each other. Registration will be held in SCOB (room 2005) and at the Twin Palms hotel. For further details, please check our venues web page: http://asdn.net/ngc2007/venues.shtml PRESENTATIONS: We recommend you NOT use your own laptop for your presentation, but upload it at our conference web site prior to coming to the meeting. This includes presentations at oral sessions and one- page-one-minute presentations at the poster sessions. We will also be collecting presentations at the registration desk. Recommended formats are PowerPoint and PDF. If special effects requiring specific software are necessary to understand the results of your research, you may indeed use your own laptop. In this case, please set it up in the conference room prior to your session start or during the coffee breaks. Setup is included in the time of your presentation, along with questions and discussion. Please, keep this in mind in preparation of your talk. To upload your presentation, please visit the following web page: http://asdn.net/ngc2007/speaker-info1.shtml NETWOKING & SOCIAL PROGRAM: We believe that networking is very important for a successful meeting, and the NGC2007 organizers have made a strong effort to enhance networking opportunities at our conference. Please, check our social program and let us know which events you'd like to join: http://asdn.net/ngc2007/social.shtml We would appreciate if you would take a couple minutes to answer a questionnaire about the events you are interested in attending to help us with planning. The survey will be sent to you in a separate message. We also invite you to participate in our new venture - an internet networking club - by submitting your own inquiries and checking those from others which may match your interests: http://asdn.net/cgi-bin/ngc2007/networking_club/nc_start SATELLITE EVENTS: We have three satellite events - a workshop on nanotechnology for energy systems (MDFES2007), ASU's nanotechnology labs tour (Nanolabs Tour) and a workshop on atomic scale research tools organized by Agilent Technologies in collaboration with ASU partners (Agilent Workshop). We invite you to check recent updates on these events, contact the event organizers with your questions, and make reservations by visiting the web pages of the events (left hand menu): http://asdn.net/ngc2007/index.shtml Thank you for joining us at the NGC2007 meeting. We look forward to seeing you in Arizona! NGC2007 Organizers February 26, 2007
