NGC2007 Newsletter -- January 22, 2007 ACCOMMODATION AND CONFENCE FEES: The regular conference fee (400 USD) and our agreements with participating hotels expire on February 12th. After that date, the conference fee increases to 500 USD, and the hotels may use our reserved rooms for sale to the general public at market price. We recommend our participants make their conference fee payment http://asdn.net/ngc2007/registration_fee.shtml and hotel reservation http://asdn.net/ngc2007/accommodation.shtml earlier rather than later to avoid unnecessary extra costs for travel. If you are interested in reducing accommodation costs by room sharing, please contact Ms. Jody Seeling (jody.seeling@asu.edu) and/or submit your room sharing proposal at the SOCIAL section of our internet networking club: http://asdn.net/cgi-bin/ngc2007/networking_club/nc_start Please also keep in mid that the week of March 12th is spring break for many US Universities. Late flight reservations may lead to higher prices and/or inconvenient flight schedules, so book your travel plans as soon as possible. SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM: We are now finalizing our scientific program, and it will be sent along with the book of abstracts to the publisher in two weeks. We would kindly appreciate if your travel schedule is compatible with our meeting program: http://asdn.net/ngc2007/scientific-program.shtml The venue details (conference room numbers, directions, etc.) will be available in about four weeks as we confirm reservations for our science and business programs. If you have an oral presentation and need to reschedule it to another day or time, please contact Dr. Erica Forzani (Erica.Forzani@asu.edu). If you have a poster presentation and have a preference for when you present (Tuesday, March 13th or Thursday, March 15th), please notify Dr. Iris Visoly-Fisher (iris@nanoandgiga.com) about your preferred day. BUSINESS PROGRAM: Our business program (technology-business interface) has been added to the conference program to assist developers in understanding both the opportunities and the complexities associated with moving technology innovations from the lab to the marketplace. The business section will consist of keynote lectures and panel sessions focused on elements of the commercialization process. Topics will include commercial tools for nanotechnology research, market intelligence, intellectual property, new investment models, government policy and societal impacts: http://www.atomicscaledesign.net/ngc2007/business-speakers.shtml SATELLITE WORKSHOPS: We are organizing two satellite workshops. A Materials and Devices for Future Energy Sources (MDFES2007) workshop will take place on Tuesday, March 13th, and will include presentations and a brain storming session: http://www.atomicscaledesign.net/ngc2007/energy-overview.shtml An ASU-Agilent Workshop on nano and atomic scale materials characterization will take place on Thursday, March 15th, and will include a lecture and a hands-on session: http://www.atomicscaledesign.net/ngc2007/materials-in-action.shtml For details, please contact the organizers, Prof. Slobodan Petrovic (MDFES2007) and Joan Horwiz (ASU-Agilent workshop). Contact information is listed on the corresponding web pages. SCHOOL: Following the tradition of the Nano & Giga Forums, two days of lectures will kick off NGC2007. The school part of the NGC2007 meeting will be opened without a registration fee to local students in Arizona through the kind support and encouragement of Arizona State University. Registration is required, however, at the School registration page: http://asdn.net/ngc2007/school/registration.shtml. For details, please contact Dr. Iris Visoly-Fisher (E.mail: iris@nanoandgiga.com). SOCIAL PROGRAM: We are now taking reservations for our scheduled events (Grand Canyon tours, Renaissance festival and city tours), which require us to reserve buses and commercial vans. Rental agencies require us to make full prepayment about a month in advance, so please make your reservations and payment as soon as possible. If the number of participants will not be sufficient to conduct a tour, you will have the following options: reschedule the day of your trip, use your prepayment for other events, get our assistance to book your trip with a commercial tour company (price will likely be higher!) or receive 100% reimbursement of your social/networking prepayment at the registration desk. Our daily hiking schedule and other events are still open, and we would appreciate your input based on your plans and preferences for those events by email to Ms. Janna Lorenzen (janna.lorenzen@srpnet.com). Please visit our frequently updated social program page while planning your journey in Arizona: http://www.atomicscaledesign.net/ngc2007/social.shtml PROFESSIONAL AND SOCIAL NETWORKING: We'd like to remind you about a new networking option which is now available on the conference web site - our internet networking club: http://asdn.net/cgi-bin/ngc2007/networking_club/nc_start You can submit your resume, job offer, (informal) proposals for research and business collaboration and social networking (e.g. room or rental car sharing, joint attendance of social events, etc.). Proposals may include full contact information or can be submitted anonymously to secure comfort of privacy in selecting the right partners. Although we have tested our new web communication program, we anticipate some programming and logistical imperfections may remain in the code and in the interface. We would appreciate your suggestions and critical comments on this new communication tool. COMMUNICATION: Please keep in mind that spam protection programs on both sides may confuse legitimate email messages with spam. From our side, we recommend using our web page for sending email messages, which guarantees 100% delivery of your messages to the organizers: http://www.atomicscaledesign.net/cgi-bin/ngc2007/send_email_to_organizers Adding organizers@asdn.net to your email program's address book may also prevent our messages from being stopped by your spam assassin. Thank you for joining us at the NGC2007 meeting. We look forward to seeing you in Arizona! NGC2007 Organizers January 22, 2007
